Beyond 'Verses.'

It is a good thing to know Bible verses and what they mean.  However if verses are what makes up your understanding of the Bible you will have come up short.  In Jewish thinking it is patterns that show us what God is saying and the authors of the Bible knew this. With this in view we would be wise to ask the Lord to help us see the patterns in Scripture.

As a side issue, when we start to identify these patterns we see just how amazing and miraculous the Bible actually is.  It would be impossible for these 66 books to have come together and have woven into the vastly different books the same message. In years gone by I lived by memorizing verses.  If a particularly difficult day emerged I would apply the bible verses.  It's a good start and 'believing-on-purpose' some verses does help.  I think God designed a better way for us to live than off just 'verses.'

By exploring these patterns a rather amazing thing occurs.  As we observe the connectedness and thoroughly engineered way in which the Bible is put together we can be sure that the Lord has got our backs covered as we experience trials and tribulations.  Feeling lonely? lacking in faith? Confused?  Of course you are! This is the pattern of all of those who step out to walk with the Lord.  It's just a season.  A verse will not rescue you!  This is the walk! The way I can confidently affirm this to you is because the stories of all the characters in the Bible demonstrate loneliness, faithlessness and confusion among other things.  When we see this underlined for us in the Bible we see a pattern and our discomfort becomes joy as we realize we are Sons simply being Fathered!  We just need to get with the program.

 What Joy!
